i know it's been a bit. i can explain....
it all started last year after going to the Montana house. per usual, I was questioning my position. I found myself at, how my mom likes to explain it, a crossroads. feeling like I had explored my possibilities in San Francisco, I decided to take a leap of faith and transfer to the motherland and return to Texas.
i made my grand exodus from my colleagues at Chaiken in mid August. Saying goodbye to dear friends and the safety blanket that was my paycheck. Paycheck, how I have missed you! Dear friends, how I have missed you more! Keep in mind, that although I have missed the security that Chaiken and even San Francisco offered me for many years, I had larger aspirations for my future greatness that I won't even realize until months of struggling in my new locale of Austin, Texas.
The plan: 1. move to Austin. 2. open Modern Gypsy.
In my minds eye, Modern Gypsy is a bohemian mobile boutique offering vintage clothing, as well as, local artisans. Together, the boutique and I would travel this great state in search of unique finds and bring them to your doorstep, farmers market, art shows and music venues. My hope of opening a shop of my own, showcasing my personal sense of style and design and developing what I conceive of as my signature line, have been delayed, but never derailed.
As it turns out, I was all the Modern Gypsy that I needed. The search for relevant work in Austin has left me penniless and uninspired. I attest now that the culture in Austin is too laid back for this urban lady. I am a person who gets dressed to go to the market, the movies, the museum, the everything. As you can imagine, I stick out like a sore thumb in this beautiful green region of central texas. This time in Austin has, however, solidified my desire to move forward again, and has rekindled a renewed focus on my best skills and talents. Sometimes there really are rest stops along the highway of life, and Austin is a great place to regroup and restore the spark that drives my concepts and desire to succeed.
So, off I go! At the end of the month, I will be getting back to business. This time, the fashion mecca of the USA is on my radar. New York city look out!
